2 way pager service

A pager is an electronic device used to contact people via a paging work. But this can also be a disadvantage, since a message sent to a pager must be broadcast from every paging transmitter in the pager's service area. This is especially critical in hospital settings where emergency staff must be able to reliably receive pages in order to respond to patient needs. 2 way pager service. Many of today's pagers use the FLEX on-air protocol. Pagers also have privacy advantages pared with cellular phones. Some early models included an analog audio receiver and speaker; upon receiving a page the speaker would activate, and the user would hear a human voice reciting their message.

The slower POCSAG on-air protocol is still used for some pagers in the United States and probably in other countries. It pre-dates mobile phone technology, being most popular during the 1980s and 1990s, but similarly uses radio transmissions to municate between a control/call center and the recipient.

Pagers using the mercial FM band receive a subcarrier, called the Subsidiary Communications Authority, of a broadcast station. On a smaller scale, pagers are sometimes carried by staff in medical establishments, allowing them to be summoned to emergencies. Common paging protocols include Telocator Alphanumeric input Protocol (TAP), FLEX, ReFLEX, POCSAG, Golay and NTT. This can result in pager messages being delayed or lost. Other radio bands used for pagers include the 400MHz band, the VHF band, and the FM mercial broadcast band (88-108MHz). Some early models included an analog audio receiver and speaker; upon receiving a page the speaker would activate, and the user would hear a human voice reciting their message.

Later pagers used digital messages, first numeric and later alphanumeric, to provide the recipient with more rmation. 2 way pager service.
